RESPONSIBILITIES: Experience in a therapeutic, highly supportive, structured and predictable school setting with clear and consistent expectations and a positive reinforcement system.Provide direct instruction and in the moment coaching in academic, social-emotional, behavioral and self-regulation skills in order for students to access the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment as indicated by the IEP. Differentiate lesson plans within the special class environmentDeliver explicit social-emotional instruction in a special class setting and push-in to general education settings to support application and generalization of taught skillsIEP development including assessment, goals, modifications, and accommodationsData collection and implementation of individual behavior plansIdentify tools and systems to progress monitor all aspects of the students’ learning and behavior.Collaborate and communicate regularly and effectively with program staff, administration and parents on behalf of the student’s successCollaborate with general education and special education colleagues across multiple subject areas and grade levels. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of appropriate New York State Special Education Teacher Certification (Special Education K-12, Students with Disabilities B-2, 1-6)Experience in a therapeutic, highly supportive, structured and predictable school setting with clear and consistent expectations and a positive reinforcement system.Training and experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or DBT-STEPS AA professional, patient, and calm demeanorExperience with children who have attentional, behavioral/emotional, and academic challenges and/or those considered “twice exceptional”Ability to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunitiesREPORTS TO: Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Special Education Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
