Fostering and maintaining these beliefs supports high expectations and an ethic of care for all students and employees – where differences are seen as strengths to be nourished, celebrated, and welcomed.RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and deliver culturally responsive and relevant lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and engagementConduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needsEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleaguesSupport all students with diverse needs (ENL, IEP, 504, etc.)Encourage family involvement in each student’s education and ensure effective communication with students and familiesPromote a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming and affirming for all students Communicate effectively orally and in writingTeach students about various health-and physical education related topics, including nutrition, mental health, substance abuse, disease prevention, physical fitness, and personal safety.Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and critical thinking.Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and parents to support students’ well-being.Stay updated on current health and physical education trends, research, and best teaching practices.Provide the differentiation and accommodations needed for the growth and success of all students; go above and beyond to ensure that all students are meeting appropriate standardsAppropriately give and receive feedback to/from students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: In depth knowledge of social emotional learning approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a classroom that is affirming and welcomingThorough knowledge of the NYS Health and Physical Education Learning StandardsKnowledge of the RTI process and ability to effectively communicate with the Instructional Support Team and parents regarding student progress and areas for growthDemonstrated knowledge of NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Frameworks Ability to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunitiesRequired possession of New York State K-12 Physical Education Teacher Certification and Health Certification REPORTS TO: Building Administration, Director and Assistant Director of Health, Physical Education & AthleticsEthnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
