Fostering and maintaining these beliefs supports high expectations and an ethic of care for all students and employees – where differences are seen as strengths to be nourished, celebrated, and welcomed.RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and deliver culturally responsive and relevant lesson plans using instructional materials that facilitate active learning and engagement while addressing student needs outlined in their individualized education programs (IEPs)Teach reading using evidence-based approaches to support identified student need Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, particularly in the area of literacy developmentModification of instructional methods to fit individual student's needsArticulate student progress and areas for growth, with corresponding plan to address any areas of concernUtilize relevant technology and instructional materials to support and differentiate instructionEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleaguesEncourage family involvement in each student’s education, and ensure effective communication with students and familiesPromote an instructional learning environment that is safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students Communicate effectively orally and in writingMeet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of appropriate New York State Special Education Teacher Certification (Special Education K-12, Special Education Permanent, SWD 5-9 or 7-12)Experience and/or certification in the area of multisensory reading instruction (i.e. Wilson, Orton Gillingham) Bilingual (Spanish-English) is strongly preferredMiddle school teaching experience is preferredStrong classroom management skills, inclusive of establishing a highly supportive, structured environment with clear and consistent expectations and a positive reinforcement systemKnowledge of high leverage special education practices and specially designed instructionExperience with IEP development - writing goals, progress monitoring and identification/implementation of accommodationsIn depth knowledge of social emotional learning (SEL) approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a classroom that is affirming and welcomingThorough knowledge of the NYS Learning StandardsDemonstrated knowledge of NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Frameworks Ability to analyze data to improve instructional practice and student learning outcomesAbility to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Special Education Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
