TITLE: School Bus Dispatcher QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience in school transportation or a related field such as commercial bus or truck transportation. When required to operate a motor vehicle, possession of a valid New York State Non-CDL or CDL-B, including any special endorsements, is required for the type of vehicle being operated. REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation DESCRIPTION: Good knowledge of standard transportation logistics and programs as related to school districts. Good knowledge of current New York State Motor Vehicle Laws, rules, and regulations as applied to the operation of school buses. Good knowledge of standard safety practices as applicable to school transportation programs. Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships between students, drivers, parents, and administration. Ability to evaluate personnel, hire new drivers, and create professional development opportunities. Ability to make data and analytic reports. Ability to communicate effectively with community, families and district staff.RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists in scheduling all school bus runs; calls substitute drivers as needed, and sees that all buses are dispatched using routing technologies, telematics, and student ridership logistics.Assists in coordinating all bus routing and bus stop problems, complaints, and new children within the district quadrants and Central New York area.Communicates with parents and principals on student management and behavior problems.Handles the recording and submission of drivers' time sheets and their payroll.Checks periodically all buses for compliance with safety laws, DOT, and DMV.Assists in the new staff orientation and the training program of new bus drivers.Reevaluates driving habits of veteran bus drivers and professional development.Assists the Director of Transportation in a variety of areas of the strategic operations plan.Continue to hold CDL-B and requirements and may drive a school bus when required.
