This person will work directly with students, staff and families to provide ongoing district support. The person in this position will use prevention and intervention through a network involving parents, individual students and district resources. This is a ten month position with an expectation of additional work time during July and August. Building effective relationshipsKnowledge of child and adolescent psychologyOrganizational skillsUnderstanding of behavioral healthWritingCrisis interventionExperience navigating social servicesUnderstanding of behavioral health MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Candidates with any of the following credentials are encouraged to apply:Licensed Clinical Social WorkerLicensed Mental Health CounselorNYS Certification in School Counseling and GuidanceBehavior Specialist Those individuals with professional experience managing student behaviors and the implementations of behavior management techniques are encouraged to apply even if they lack the recommended licensure.GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The K-12 Counselor will be a leader, an advocate, and a frequent collaborator with teachers, administrators, families, students, and community organizations. The K-12 Counselor will be an integral part of Lowville Academy and Central School district’s educational program. The K-12 Counselor will work with the building principals to coordinate activities that enable students to individually meet their academic, career and personal/social needs SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSupport school personnel in assessing, understanding, and responding to students’ social-emotional-behavioral developmental needs.Serve as a member of any school-based team(s) addressing social-emotional learning, trauma response, school climate and culture.Provide direct services to students, e.g. groups, individual sessions, and in-class presentations.Engage families and caregivers in understanding the ways in which academic outcomes are enhanced by servicing the social-emotional and personal development needs of the child.Develop and enhance community partnerships with community agencies to meet the identified, and varying needs of students, families, and the school.Provide substance abuse prevention services to youth, families, and community members.Be involved in mentoring activities and assessing the youth’s progress toward the fulfillment of goals and objectives.Maintain and utilize data to track student achievementInitiate and conduct parent conferences on an ongoing basisMake telephone/e-mail contacts to effectively communicate with parentsAttend and participate in CSE meetingsAttend and participate in weekly grade level team meetingsParticipate in support team servicesConduct grade level and building level presentations on academic issuesEnsure Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) learning standards are met.Provide individual counseling services for self-esteem, building family relationships, improving peer communication, problem solving, setting personal goals, identifying positive role models, reducing school absenteeism, academic concerns and other issuesProvide group counseling services for self-esteem, building family relationships, improving peer communication, problem solving, setting personal goals, identifying positive role models, reducing school absenteeism, academic concerns and other issues.Provide prevention, intervention and responsive counseling services to students
