The Library Media Specialist is a leader, teacher, instructional partner, information specialist and instructional technology coach.• Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to develop assignments that are instructionally sound and include key critical thinking, literacy and social skills, and instructional technology. Develop a thorough knowledge of subject area and grade level curricula. • Provide active learning experiences and opportunities to meet the diverse needs of students. • Develop initiatives to encourage and engage learners in reading, writing, and listening for understanding and enjoyment. • Assume a leadership role in modeling and teaching instructional technology for students, staff and administration. Through professional development activities with classroom teachers, encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning. • Coach teachers in and model design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences emphasizing 21st century skills (i.e., critical thinking, systems thinking, problem identification, formulation and solution, creativity and intellectual curiosity). • Develop, maintain and promote makerspace and STEAM activities for classes and students. • Participate on district technology committees and in local, state and professional organizations staying abreast of trends and best practices in the profession. • Ensure the effective integration of the American Association of School Librarians' learning standards and the ISTE Standards for Students and Educators. • Creates a flexible, multi-task learning environment. • Manage the duties of the library assistants and volunteers in the media center. • Responsible for maintaining the media center budget.Candidates must possess the appropriate NYS Teaching Certification and should address job-specific cover letters to Ms. Jennifer Freedman, Director of Instructional Technology and Innovation
