Invitation to applyThe Lake George Central School District is seeking to fill the position of School Counselor (K-12) 1.0 FTE. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess:Knowledge of Common Core Learning Standards and College and Career Readiness skills;Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and administrators;Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community;Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills;Strives to grow and learn in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. NYS School Counselor Certification (K-12)Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Available to all students for individual or group counseling.Helps teachers and parents understand students' individual differences and assists in working with students with special physical, educational, and emotional needs or handicaps.Plans and participates in consultations and conferences with the principal, parents, teachers, and students as viewed necessary.Develops a resource file and refers students, parents, and/or staff to appropriate referral resources.Assists the building principal in preparing the master schedule of academic courses to be offered.Orients new students to school procedures and the school’s varied opportunities for learning and checks the students’ social and academic adjustment.Aids students in course and subject selection.Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality. Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.Provides student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Board’s policy on student records.Plans guidance field trips to schools, colleges, BOCES, and industry for interested students.Supervises the preparation and processing of college, scholarship, and employment applications.Makes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.Obtains and disseminates occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations. Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.Counsels students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relationships, health, and emotional adjustment.Interprets the guidance program to the community.
