Position Description: Levittown Public Schools seeks a dedicated and experienced educator to join our leadership team, committed to “Success for Every Student.” The Assistant to the Superintendent for Special Education will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the district’s special education programs, ensuring high-quality, individualized support for students with disabilities in compliance with federal and state regulations. This individual will collaborate with administrators, educators, families, and community stakeholders to ensure that all students with disabilities receive high-quality, individualized instruction and support services in full compliance with federal and state regulations. Qualifications:Valid NYS SDL certification and NYS certification in special educationStrong communication, problem-solving, human relations, and conflict resolution skillsExperience developing and managing special education programs for students with diverse needsIn-depth knowledge of state and federal special education laws Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Develop, implement, and assess special education programs to ensure all students receive high-quality instruction in the least restrictive environment.Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for the district’s special education programs and pupil personnel services, ensuring the development and implementation of effective policies, procedures, and practices.Supervise and support special education personnel, including director, assistant director, chairpeople, teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, behavior specialists, and other related staff.Oversee nursing staff, ensuring compliance with health plans, immunization requirements, illness tracking, and related medical protocols.Oversee the referral process and the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring alignment with district policies and legal mandates.Evaluate the effectiveness of student support services, including psychological and social work services, and make recommendations for program improvements.Utilize data analysis to assess program effectiveness, inform decision-making, and adjust special education services as needed. Stay informed on current research, trends, and best practices in special education and apply findings to enhance district programs and services.Identify and secure grants and other funding sources to support special education initiatives; oversee budget allocation and resource management to ensure fiscal responsibility.Manage and monitor special education budgets, staffing, and resources to support both short- and long-term district goals effectively.Attend and present at Board of Education meetings and other district events as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Board of EducationPrevious experience as an Executive Director or Director of Special Education preferred.
