REQUIREMENTS : NYS Certification Childhood Education (1-6) RESPONSIBILITIES : - Elementary Science Specialist: Act as the building level lead for grades 3-5, providing specialized science instruction and overseeing the delivery of the science curriculum to all intermediate classes. - Collaborative Instruction: Partner with classroom teachers to deliver high-quality, hands-on lab experiences that reinforce grade-level curriculum. - Lab Management & Safety: Maintain a safe, organized, and fully functioning science laboratory, ensuring all equipment and materials are prepared for student use. - Inquiry-Based Learning: Facilitate student investigations and experiments that emphasize the scientific method and discovery-based learning. - Safety Oversight: Ensure the well-being of students by explicitly teaching and enforcing age-appropriate laboratory safety protocols. - Curriculum Adaptation: Adapt teaching methods and lab activities to meet the diverse needs of individual students within the lab setting. - Science Fair Leadership: Collaborate on the organization and planning of the Locust Valley School District elementary science fair. QUALIFICATIONS : - State Standards Expertise: Deep knowledge of the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSP-12SLS). - Lab Proficiency: Proven experience in managing a science laboratory or facilitating complex hands-on scientific experiments for elementary-aged students. - Co-Teaching Skills: Ability to work effectively in a "push-in" or "team-teaching" model alongside classroom colleagues. - Technical Literacy: Strong understanding of modern teaching techniques and the use of classroom and laboratory technologies (e.g., digital microscopes, data collection tools). - Effective Communication: Proven leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate progress effectively to parents and colleagues.
