REQUIREMENTS: NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (7-12) NYS Certification in Science (7-12) RESPONSIBILITIES : The special education teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum. Explain science concepts and principles to students in a comprehensible manner. Incorporate hands-on laboratory activities into instruction where appropriate. Develop and present curriculum lesson plans in support of student IEPs (course materials and related activities) and assignments to students. Modifies existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual students’ special needs. Assess, evaluate and track student performance and ongoing progress. Build and manage trusting relationships with students, parents, and school staff. Keep parents informed of student progress through regular communication on IEP progress and feedback. Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment. Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student. Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the lesson plans. Collaborate with teachers on building, evolving lesson plans for a more consistent student learning experience. QUALIFICATIONS : Experience as a Special Education Science teacher is preferred. Proven leadership, organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail (Maintain accurate records, reports). Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students. Proven ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and partner with students & parents in the learning process. START: September 1, 2026 SALARY: According to the LVSEA Teachers Contract
