The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher (Grade 6) to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential. Duties and Responsibilities:The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.Develop and design lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans (in support of students IEPs) provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.Develop new ideas and concepts through a variety of strategies to help students uncover new ideas of their own.Modifies existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual students’ special needs.Build relationships with students and their families through regular communication on IEP progress and feedback.Working with students individually if they need extra help and support.Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.Start Date and Benefits:This position is a long term elementary (6th grade) position located in our Middle School with an anticipated start date of Sep 20, 2024 through Dec 16, 2024. There are no benefits. Qualifications:Experience working in Special Education. Knowledge of NYS Special Education law.Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.Emotional stability and strong problem-solving skills.Training and Education:NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities All Grades.NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6.Salary:$175 per day.Interested Candidates:Submit a cover letter, resume and 2 professional references.Posting Deadline:August 20, 2024.
