A total of 3,500 students are enrolled in prekindergarten to grade 12.The mission of the Long Beach Public Schools is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and enthusiastic students who value and demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving.Through collaborations and partnerships, Long Beach Public School graduates will be compassionate, life-long learners capable of achieving their personal goals as self-sufficient, responsible and contributing citizens of a diverse global community.Long Beach Public Schools, a diverse district with high expectations for students and staff, is seeking innovative and caring candidates who reflect the diversity that makes our community unique.The following position is anticipated to be available beginning January 5, 2026: Position: 1:1 Full Time Teacher Assistant for a Visually Impaired Student Location: Long Beach Middle School Qualifications: Experience of successfully implementing accommodations and modification to support students with special needsImplementation of academic and support strategies under the direction of the special education and general education teacherExperience with data collectionAbility to assist with technology in the classroom Willingness to assist with activities of daily living and to provide physical support for transitions in an emergency Ability and willingness to learn to read and transcribe braille, and ability to work well with others ResponsibilitiesProviding comprehensive support across academic, safety, and functional independence-building domains.Assist the student with safe navigation and mobility throughout the school building, including transitions between classes, lunch, specials, and other scheduled activitiesSupport the development and practice of functional, organizational, and independent living skills in accordance with the student's IEP goals.Provide instructional support across subject areas, reinforce lesson content, clarify directions, and assist the student in accessing grade-level instructionTranscribe classroom materials, assignments, assessments, and/or teacher communications into braille as neededSupport the student in learning and using braille for reading and writingAssist the student in accessing and utilizing assistive technology devices Assist the student in accessing and utilizing assistive technology devices and software, including but not limited to screen readers, braille notetakers, and other adaptive equipmentImplement accommodations, modifications, and supports as outlined in the student's IEP. Collaborate with the Vision Teacher, classroom teachers, related service providers, and school support staffProvide any and all other supports necessary to promote the student's safety, independence, academic progress, and full participation in the school environmentThis position is essential to ensuring the student has appropriate access to instruction, mobility, materials, and independence as required by federal and state guidelines.
