LSS offers competitive compensation and benefits, excellent learning, and development opportunities.WHO YOU CAN BECOME: The Special Education Teacher (6-12th) is a full-time, 35-hour a week, 10-month (school calendar), and exempt salaried position that is responsible for supporting the educational program providing instruction to junior and senior high school students and to fulfill non-instructional related duties. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.Lead and instruct a minimum of five designated classes as assigned.Implement behavioral management strategies to support students in meeting classroom expectations.Incorporate identified techniques and strategies listed in student IEPs, ICMPs, etc. to support learning.Plan and submit lesson plans aligned to current NYS Standards while accommodating student’s IEP needs.Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to increase student engagement.Participate in professional development opportunities to continue to increase skillset in your assigned content area and special education instruction.Be aware of NYSED state exams and testing requirements to provide targeted test preparation.Progress monitors academic and behavior goals as required per student’s IEPs.Support the overall Special Education program at LSS.Follow guidelines outlined in the faculty handbook & Code of ConductCommunicate information about student concerns or other pertinent issues to your direct supervisor.Be a resource to other educators, parents, and agency staff.Participate actively in content-area department meetings and faculty meetings.Participate in non-instructional activities, such as, but not limited to special events (i.e. graduation, open house).Provide appropriate supervision to all students. WHAT YOU NEED: Master’s Degree & NYS Teacher Certification in subject area and/or special education.Commitment to support the agency’s mission and philosophy.Special Education Certification (preferred).Experience working with special education population at the JH/SH level (preferred).Ability to learn and implement behavioral intervention techniques (preferred).WHAT WE OFFER:Start at 12 sick days per year and other leave time available dependent on the circumstances.Health/Medical Insurance - Single (LSS covers 100% of cost) / 2-person/family (LSS covers 50% of coverage)Dental Insurance - Single (LSS covers 100% of cost) / 2-person/family (LSS covers 50% of cost)Life Insurance - LSS covers 100% of cost at $50,000.
