Lakeland Central School District is seeking a full-time Director of Communications. An incumbent of this position must hold the Westchester County civil service title of Public Relations Coordinator or Public Relations Assistant. Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, this employee plans, coordinates, directs and supervises a public relations program and presents information through diverse media outlets. This employee will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications program targeted to the specific needs and objectives of our school district. They should have thorough knowledge of the techniques of preparing, producing and disseminating information to the various media and of the methods used in evaluating the effectiveness of a public information and relations program. An incumbent of this position will direct and/or prepare public information materials, programs and projects including news releases and publications. Good knowledge of social media platforms and good layout and design skills. Ability to express ideas in writing, to speak effectively in public and to deal with persons of divergent views in a courteous, tactful and effective manner is also required. This employee should also have the ability to build and maintain relationships and work well with others. Minimum acceptable training and experience: A Bachelor’s Degree and (3) years of experience in public relations, community relations or journalism. A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a closely related field may substitute for an additional year of the general work experience as described above can be substituted. There is no substitution for the two (2) years of experience in public information. School District experience preferred. Salary: $90,000 - $105,000. Salary commensurate with experience.
