PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Director of Curriculum for Elementary K-5 shall be responsible for leading and directing the Implementation of our elementary focus on improving student performance, 21st Century Learning, professional development planning and technology integration initiatives for Kindergarten through Grade 5. This includes responsibilities for strategic planning, curriculum development, testing, supervision and evaluation. Responsible to: Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Qualifications: • NYS Certification-School District Administrator; • Successful teaching experience; • Experience leading elementary curriculum, instruction and assessment initiatives; • Strong background in learning theory, research-based instructional practices and applied Research; • Ability to deal effectively with people and problem solve; • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others; • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral, written and digital); • Experience with technology planning, applications and integration. Leadership Responsibilities and Expectations: • Focuses the district on the strategic plan for improving student performance and builds a • shared vision for 21st Century Learning; • Understands the complex process of improving student performance and stays informed on federal, state and local initiatives; • Evaluates existing programs as an ongoing responsibility and recommends changes and • additions as needed; • Serve on the District Curriculum Council; • Participate in district-wide reform by serving as sub-group leaders in the District’s Curriculum Council, designed to assure quality and consistency in content, pedagogy, and assessment across grades and subject areas; • Establishes a district-wide secondary planning process for developing curriculum, instruction and assessment; PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE FROM BULLETIN BOARD • Offers professional development that increases teacher leadership and supports the • implementation of innovation practices; • Oversees the elementary level NYS Assessment process; • Oversees data collection, submission and analysis for the elementary level; • Assumes responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents legally required or administratively useful; • Supervises Elementary Coordinators. Other Duties: • Performs and completes other duties and responsibilities as specifically determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction; • Relationship with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Superintendent of Schools; • Demonstrates a good working relationship with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Superintendent of Schools; • Supports Board of Education policies and actions to the public and staff; • Attends meetings of the Board of Education as appropriate; • Prepares annual reports for the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Superintendent of Schools; • Submits items in a timely manner to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction with • appropriate recommendations based on thorough study and analysis; • Prepares in a timely manner and presents materials, reports background data and information for Board meetings as requested by the Superintendent of Schools. Relationship with Community: • Promotes community understanding and support for the schools; • Is visible in the community and participates in community activities. Conditions of Employment: Director of Curriculum for Elementary position is a tenure-track position and is part of the Lakeland ALA Bargaining Unit. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. Salary Range: Based on the negotiated contract agreement between the Board of Education and Lakeland ALA Bargaining Unit.
