PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics provides leadership and oversight of the District's K-12 physical education, health education, and interscholastic athletic programs. The Director supervises staff, oversees curriculum and athletic operations, manages budgets and facilities, ensures compliance with New York State regulations, and promotes student wellness, safety, equity, and sportsmanship. The Director collaborates with administrators, staff, students, families, and the community to support high-quality educational and athletic programs. Reports To: Superintendent of Schools Qualifications New York State School District Administrator certification required; New York State Physical Education certification required; Master's Degree from an accredited college or university; Successful administrative and/or teaching experience, including experience working with adolescents and athletic coaching; Current First Aid and CPR certification; Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional practices, assessment, child development, and New York State regulations governing physical education and athletics; Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; Ability to supervise staff, manage complex operations, solve problems effectively, and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community; Demonstrates integrity, initiative, sound judgment, and professionalism. Supervises Supervisor of Physical Education, Health and Athletics, Physical Education Teachers, Health Education Teachers, Athletic Trainers, Coaches, Department support staff. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership and Program Administration Provide leadership and supervision for the District's K-12 physical education, health education, intramural, and interscholastic athletic programs; Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum and programs that align with New York State Learning Standards; Supervise and evaluate department staff and assist principals with the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of coaches and teachers. Foster a culture of student wellness, sportsmanship, inclusion, and academic achievement. Athletic Operations Organize and administer all middle and high school interscholastic athletic programs; Coordinate schedules, transportation, officials, security, athletic facilities, and game management; Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section One, league, Board of Education, and New York State regulations; Verify student eligibility and oversee required athletic physicals, medical clearances, and insurance requirements; Represent the District at league, conference, and professional meetings. Budget and Resource Management Develop and administer the annual departmental and athletic budgets; Oversee purchasing, inventory, maintenance, storage, and replacement of athletic equipment and supplies. Maintain accurate financial, program, and participation records. Communication and Community Relations Communicate regularly with the Superintendent, principals, coaches, staff, students, parents, and community members regarding program operations and student success; Coordinate athletic recognition programs and promote positive school-community relations; Respond promptly to correspondence and complete all required reports and records. Other Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee. Community Relations Promote understanding and support of District educational and athletic programs; Maintain a visible presence at school and community events. Conditions of Employment This is a tenure-track administrative position and is part of the Lakeland Administrators' Association (ALA) bargaining unit. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools. Salary Range Based on the negotiated contract agreement between the Board of Education and Lakeland ALA Bargaining Unit. ($146,415 - $178,478 based on experience)
