Lakeland Central School District Department is seeking a Supervisor of Payroll & Employee Benefits. This is a competitive Civil Service Title. This 12 month employee coordinates, supervises and assists in specialized clerical work related to school district payroll and benefit functions. This employee is responsible for the maintenance of employee records, deductions and other information necessary for processing of payrolls. Compiles and maintains a complete payroll record for each employee including all payroll deductions such as health/dental insurance, social security tax, savings bonds, group insurance, union dues, 403B, retirement, loans, etc. Supervises, coordinates and prepares time and attendance changes, appointments, salary increases, promotions, resignations, terminations, changes in insurance rates, leaves of absence without pay and other changes affecting payroll. This position involves considerable contact with employees, administrators, department heads as well as state and local agencies. Required knowledge and skills: Thorough knowledge of modern payroll procedures and employee benefit programs and procedures; good knowledge of Social Security and Retirement laws, working knowledge of federal, state and local laws that impact on salary, pension and benefits administration, rules and regulations with respect to payroll preparation. Ability to lead the work of others.Minimum acceptable training and experience: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either: (a) a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in payroll which involved employee benefit functions and must have included on (1) year in a supervisory capacity; or (b) an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or closely related fields and four (4) years of experience in payroll which involved employee benefits functions and must have included one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; (c) Six years of experience in payroll which involved employee benefits functions and must have included two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; or (d) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience. Start Date: August 1, 2023. Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm. Salary: $80,000 - $95,000. Salary commensurate with experience.
