The Kingston City School District is seeking a Director of in-District Special Education – K-12 The Director of In-District Special Education K-12 manages the overall supervision, direction, coordination, and evaluation of staff serving Students with Disabilities in the Special Education Department. Responsibilities include oversight of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) in accordance with the Kingston City School District policies and NYSED Part 200 Regulations. Reports to: Assistant Superintendents of Elementary and Secondary PPS Salary: As per ASPA contract Start Date: April 2025 Duties and Responsibilities: • Direct, manage and develop all special education programs and services to meet and project student needs. • Develop, cultivate, and disseminate professional development resources, and materials to support staff in the accomplishment of special education goals. • Keep abreast of developments in special education regulations and make decisions on staff and student issues regarding compliance and procedural safeguards. Collaborate with building leadership, district leadership, and out of district placements, to implement special education initiatives. • Ensure the safety of students and compliance with ADA, State, and Federal Regulations. • Conduct special education training and meetings to keep administration, district staff, and building staff knowledgeable about policy changes, new programs, current best practices, and other pertinent information regarding special education. • Provide consultative services in the maintenance and confidentiality of student records. • Ensure that special education staff is in compliance with IDEA. • Coordinate, prepare, and present current procedural and programmatic issues regarding special education. • Serve as a resource for information regarding special education, its purpose, objectives, and applicable laws and regulations. • Design professional development and improvement plans to ensure exemplary program operations and improve student achievement. • Provide guidance and training to families to promote and encourage understanding of special education as it relates to students with special needs. • Screen and interview applicants with school administration for various positions and make recommendations for hiring. • Make recommendations relative to personnel placements, transfers, and discipline. • Develop policies and procedures regarding issues of non- compliance. • Directly supervise special education teachers on special assignments and be responsible for all CSE processes and procedures. • Perform additional duties as assigned. Experience and Qualifications: New York State Certification in School District Administration (SDA) or School Administrators and Supervisor (SAS) • A minimum of five years of supervision and leadership experience, knowledge, or experience in the field of special education. • Expert knowledge in special education laws and regulations. • Expert knowledge of disability categories under IDEA. • Expert skill in organization and problem-solving. • Expert communication / interpersonal skills. • Advanced skill in interpreting policies and procedures. • Advanced knowledge in curriculum, supervision, and instruction. • Advanced skill in analysis/synthesis. • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire. • Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred) NYS Certification is required at time of application EOC: Minority candidates are encouraged to apply In addition to applying on OLASLetter of interest should be forwarded to:Abbie ReinhardtCoordinator of Personnel & BenefitsATTN: M.
