Position Title: ASSISTANT SCHOOL LUNCH DIRECTOR (12-Month Position) (Non-aligned position) Distinguishing Features of the Class: Assists the School Lunch Director in overseeing the activities of a large school lunch program. Work involves carrying out policies and procedures for the effective operation of the program. Supervision is exercised over the work of school lunch supervisors, cook managers, and other school lunch program personnel. Does related work as required. Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrition and their application to the health of children; thorough knowledge of all phases of the school lunch program; thorough knowledge of office management, personnel selection, and training. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees in Culinary Arts, Food Prep and Nutrition or a closely related field; ORFive years of satisfactory experience in institution management, hotel administration or restaurant management, involving large quantity food service. Special Requirements: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon fingerprint and criminal history background check.
