SCHOOL NURSE JOB DESCRIPTIONMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESThe School Nurse is responsible for performing professional services to maintain acceptable health standards, school health records and the emergency treatment of student health problems, including giving care to students and performing related nursing services such as pupil health appraisal, follow-through and communicable disease control.DUTIESNursing TasksConducts or assists the school physician in conducting examinations and screeningsAdministers first-aid and emergency treatment to students and employeesAppraises the mental and physical health status of pupil through observation and analysis of records on a continuing basisMakes referral to private physicians, community agencies, etc. at the request of or with the consent of the school physician or principalArranges transportation of sick or injured students or employeesDispenses medication as directed by a physicianOversees health care of students with special medical needsOrganizational TasksPlans for periodic examinations and screenings as requiredPrepares, maintains, and shares information on cumulative health recordsOrders, inventories and stores first-aid and health supplies and equipmentPrepares records and reports as requiredPerforms additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or school physicianAUTHORITYThe School Nurse reports directly to the building principal and the Director of Physical Education, Athletics and Health.
