SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTJOB DESCRIPTIONMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESThe School Psychologist is responsible for providing preventive, diagnostic and remedial services for students to enhance understanding of self and increase effectiveness in dealing with the educational and social environment.DUTIESScreens and accepts building referrals through established proceduresProvides psychoeducational assessment and diagnosis for children as neededConsults with staff and others to assist in development of an effective program plan for individual studentsConfers with parents and teachers regarding student progress and evaluationProvides counseling to individual students and groups as neededProvides classroom instruction and/or facilitates programs as appropriateRefers individuals to agencies and specialists as appropriateAssists staff in referring students suspected of a disabilityProvides information to staff and parents on topics relating to psychology and learningMaintains accurate records on student progressRequisitions and maintains needed equipment and suppliesAssists in research on educational and psycho-social issues and programs as neededParticipates in CSE, Pupil Services Team, staff case reviews and other designated meetingsPresents diagnostic information and recommendations to the Committee for Special Education upon requestAssists special education teacher in development of an IEP for each student identified as disabled and receiving counselingActs as a resource for staff and CSE regarding school psychological servicesKeeps current regarding legislation, regulations and procedures regarding disabling conditionsPerforms additional duties as assigned by the supervisorAUTHORITYThe School Psychologist reports directly to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and the building principal.
