We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and mission-driven Finance Director to oversee the School’s financial operations and support the long-term financial health of our organization. This is a key leadership role that works closely with the Executive Director, leadership team, Board of Directors, and external partners to ensure strong fiscal stewardship across a complex nonprofit educational environment. Position Details Full-time, exempt position Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM-4:00 PM Reports to the Executive Director Supervises one Accounting Associate Transition Timeline This position is expected to begin in November 2026 as part of a planned leadership transition. The selected candidate will work alongside the current Finance Director during a structured onboarding and knowledge-transfer period of 2-3 months. To support a successful transition, the position will initially begin at approximately 50% FTE, with hours gradually increasing over the course of the transition period as responsibilities shift to the new Finance Director. The role is expected to transition into a full-time schedule in Spring of 2027. This phased approach is intended to provide meaningful training, continuity, and support as the new Director assumes responsibility for the School’s financial operations, audit processes, and annual Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR). What You’ll Do The Finance Director oversees all financial operations of the School, including: Financial management and accounting operations Budget development and financial forecasting Payroll oversight and benefits-related financial administration Government billing and reimbursement management Grant financial management and reporting Board financial reporting and audit coordination Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR) preparation and submission Oversight of Friends of Jowonio financial activities This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing big-picture financial strategy with hands-on operational work in a collaborative nonprofit setting. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Financial Operations Oversee the School's day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, banking, general ledger activity, and financial recordkeeping. Manage cash flow, perform account reconciliations, maintain the chart of accounts, and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions. Oversee financial operations for Friends of Jowonio, including reconciliations and inter-agency transactions. Financial Planning Lead the annual budget development process and long-term financial planning. Collaborate with leadership to develop program and grant budgets. Monitor financial performance, analyze budget-to-actual results, and provide financial reports and recommendations to leadership and the Board. Billing, Revenue & Grants Management Oversee billing, revenue collection, and reimbursement processes for government-funded programs, tuition, and grants. Ensure accurate billing, reconciliation of payments, and compliance with funding requirements. Manage the fiscal administration and reporting of grant-funded programs. Payroll & Benefits Oversee payroll processing and benefits-related financial activities for approximately 100 employees in collaboration with Human Resources and the Executive Director. Administer the School's retirement plan, coordinate benefits-related financial reporting, and ensure accurate allocation of payroll expenses across programs. Manage payment and reconciliation of employee benefit plans and related invoices. Board Reporting & Financial Compliance Prepare financial reports, cash flow analyses, and budget updates for the Board of Directors and Finance Committee. Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations to support informed decision-making. Maintain financial records and documentation required for audits, contracts, insurance renewals, and regulatory reporting. Regulatory Reporting Coordinate the annual independent audit by preparing financial documentation and supporting auditors throughout the audit process. Prepare and submit the annual Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR) and other required financial reports to ensure compliance with state and funding agency requirements.
