The Assistant School Transportation Supervisor assists the School Transportation Supervisor in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students. This role involves overseeing vehicle maintenance, managing transportation staff, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Includes full salary benefit package and NYS retirement system. Must be eligible to sit for the Onondaga civil service test and be reachable. Key Responsibilities:Route and Schedule Management:Establish school bus routes and time schedules in coordination with the chief school executive or other administrative superior.Assign school bus drivers to routes and ensure all routes are covered daily.Receive and resolve routing and bus stop problems, complaints, and other issues involved in bus runs.Staff Training and Evaluation:Orient and train new bus drivers.Re-evaluate the driving habits of veteran bus drivers.Administrative Duties:Maintain necessary records, including time sheets/cards, personnel records, material costs, and equipment and parts inventory.Maintain and organize substitutes for daily assignments.Safety and Compliance:Ensure compliance with all state and federal transportation regulations.Stakeholder Interaction:Confer with parents and principals on student behavior problems.Address concerns and inquiries from parents, school officials, and the community regarding transportation services.Qualifications:Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in transportation management, logistics, or a related field preferred.Experience: Three (3) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in school transportation, commercial bus or truck transportation, repair and maintenance of motor vehicles, or a closely related field, which included responsibility for routing, scheduling personnel, or maintenance of vehicles.Licenses/Certifications: Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.Skills:Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Proficiency in transportation management software and Microsoft Office Suite.Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations.
