Position Title: 1.0 Humanities Teacher Brief Description: English and social studies teachers are members of the interdisciplinary Humanities professional learning community. The candidate should have an interest in collaboration, co-teaching and making curricular decisions through a consensus process.Mastery with incorporating inquiry based learning experiences must bedisplayed. Shaping experiences which integrate student choice andinterest is essential. The candidate should have a strong commitment toan identity-affirming curriculum where student voice is promoted.Experience writing and delivering innovative curriculum highlightingdiversity and working to integrate the history of women and people ofcolor in the field must be evident. Note from Principal: The Lehman Alternative Community School (LACS) is a unique 6-12democratic school, where all members of the school community(students, staff and families) are involved in decision making. We valuedepth over breadth in our project-based curriculum where students areasked to solve authentic problems and teachers are encouraged to includetopics they are passionate about in their subject matter. Studentsdemonstrate their understanding through portfolios includingPerformance Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) and we use narrativefeedback and a proficiency-based structure for high school graduationrequirements. We are a long-time member of the NY PerformanceStandards Consortium. The principle of student as learner, teacher ascoach is central.
