ANTICIPATED OPENING: SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027 PRINCIPAL – SHERWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL The Islip Union Free School District seeks a leader with integrity who is personable, compassionate, decisive, and has a growth mindset to be the next Principal of Sherwood Elementary School. The successful candidate will be one who is transparent, student-centered, of high character, with good listening skills, and believes all students can achieve at high levels, fully prepared to support a hard-working faculty and staff. Qualifications : NYS Administrative certification (SBL, SDA or SDL) required Eight or more years of successful and effective teaching experience Prior administrative experience Bilingual candidate preferred The successful candidate will demonstrate: A steadfast belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels; A positive, solutions-oriented attitude and drive for excellence; Self-reflection and openness to feedback, with the ambition and desire to grow one’s professional practice; A proven record of ability to positively influence organizational culture; An ability to maintain professionalism through excellent organizational skills, timeliness, regular communication, and meeting deadlines; Eagerness to work collaboratively as part of a team; A strong track record of building positive relationships across various stakeholder groups demonstrating a value towards diversity and inclusivity; A proven record of monitoring quality and effectiveness of interventions to ensure they are rigorous, disciplined, and high-impact, and occur whenever students are struggling; Evidence of supporting a culture of high academic and behavioral expectations; A school-wide vision of mathematics instruction that emphasizes curiosity, inquiry, and student ownership of learning while supporting teachers through ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development. Evidence of data-driven decision making as it relates to student achievement; Passion for education and a dedication to Sherwood Elementary, our students, and community; Teaching or leadership experience in a technology-infused learning environment; Strong interpersonal and communication skills. T he Sherwood Elementary Principal is the major influence over school culture and the lead learner. The successful candidate will therefore: Foster a school climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, faculty, staff, and parents; Ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, visitors, and public and private property; Collaborate with faculty, support staff, and administrators to ensure students’ needs are met daily; Ensure that the learning environment and classroom instruction maximize student learning; Lead and grow a learning environment where character development practices are present and active in the work of staff as well as evident in work with families and staff; Reflect on actions and adjust behavior and systems accordingly; ask regularly for feedback; model humility and admit mistakes; seek out thought partners; Observe lessons and provide on-going, specific, actionable, positive, and constructive feedback that ensures the teacher can translate the feedback into improved instruction; When necessary, directly manage teachers, ensuring their constant improvement in teaching practices through coaching, professional development, modeling, and collaborative planning; Establish a data-driven culture in which student performance and mastery of standards drives instructional decisions; Design and run high-quality professional development sessions; Ensure disciplinary issues are addressed immediately or in a timely manner and with consistency; Ensure and maintain high standards for student behavior, performance, and attendance; Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a dedicated role model and mentor for other employees and students Please submit letter of interest and resume via OLAS ONLY to: Cynthia M.
