ANTICIPATED OPENING: SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027 Director of Special Education K-12 – LEAVE REPLACEMENT *New York State SAS/SDA or SBL/SDL Certification Required The Director of Special Education provides leadership, oversight, and supervision of the District's special education programs and services. Working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, related service providers, students, and families, the Director ensures that all special education programs are implemented in compliance with federal and New York State regulations while supporting high-quality instructional practices and positive outcomes for students with disabilities. Primary Responsibilities Provides direct supervision, support, of special education teachers, school psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists Primary supervisor for the District's Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) processes. Conducts teacher observations and evaluations in accordance with District procedures. Oversees the implementation of special education services for students in both in-district and out-of-district placements. Collaborates in the development and implementation of the middle school and high school special education master schedule. Works closely with the District's Alternative Learning Program (ALLI) to ensure appropriate programming and support for students. Coordinates and facilitates Special Education Department meetings and professional collaboration. Ensures compliance with all Individualized Education Program (IEP) procedures, timelines, confidentiality requirements, and implementation of services. Maintains working knowledge of and oversees compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) federal indicators, special education reporting requirements, and student data. Demonstrates knowledge in Part 200 Regulations, NYS Alternate Assessment (NYSAA), Section 504 accommodation plans, special education assessments, and all applicable state and federal compliance protocols. Serve as the District's chairperson for manifestation determination review meetings. Collaborates effectively with students, families, administrators, teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessional staff to support student success and ensure continuity of services.
