ANTICIPATED OPENING: SCHOOL YEAR 2026 – 2027 Special Education Teacher – 8:1:2 ABA Probationary Islip Middle School Islip Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate special education teacher to lead an 8:1:2 classroom serving students with significant learning, behavioral, and communication needs. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and creating individualized learning experiences that promote student independence and success. Certification Requirements: New York State Certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities 1-6, 7-12, or All Grades). Responsibilities : Develop and implement individualized instruction aligned with students' IEP goals. Utilize ABA strategies to support skill acquisition, behavior management, and student engagement. Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions. Create a structured, positive, and supportive classroom environment. Collaborate with teaching assistants, related service providers, administrators, and families. Coordinate with district BCBA to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, functional, communication, and social-emotional needs of students. Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Required Qualifications: New York State Certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities 1-6, 7-12, or All Grades). Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with disabilities. Demonstrated experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies. Experience managing challenging behaviors and supporting students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Strong data collection and progress-monitoring skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Preferred Qualifications : Experience in an 8:1:2, 6:1:1, or similar specialized classroom setting. Knowledge of AAC devices and alternative communication systems. Experience teaching functional academics, life skills, vocational skills, and community-based instruction.
