ANTICIPATED OPENING: SCHOOL YEAR 2022-2023Teaching Assistant, Sherwood Elementary School - Grades 2-5:.5 STEAM, .5 Small Group Instruction (Literacy and Math) The Islip School District seeks a student-centered educator who is dedicated to professional growth and committed to the success of all students. CERTIFICATIONS: Elementary Education B-6 (preferred) or Teaching Assistant Certification Responsibilities: Allowing students to design, innovate, problem solve, communicate, and collaborate. Helping students apply higher-order thinking skills to open-ended problems. Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, independently and collaboratively with classroom teachers. Help support at-risk students throughout the day by providing small group literacy and math instruction through multiple modalities. Support students through collaboration with the classroom teacher by providing instruction for scheduled classes. The ability to learn and incorporate teaching interventions for students not meeting proficiency. Review student classwork/homework to provide feedback. Must be well organized with strong verbal communication skills. Experience with Makerspace preferred, but not required.
