F.D. Roosevelt High School, part of the Hyde Park Central School District, is seeking multiple dynamic, fluent, and dedicated High School Spanish Teachers to join our team for full-time positions beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidates will have a passion for teaching, fostering linguistic skill and cultural empathy, and be committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment. Key Responsibilities Design and implement proficiency-based lessons for Spanish levels I through V (including potential College-Level or AP courses). Maintain a high percentage of target language use in the classroom to build student confidence and listening comprehension. Integrate the study of diverse Spanish-speaking cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues into the daily curriculum. Adapt instruction to support a wide range of learners, including Heritage Speakers and students with diverse learning needs. Leverage digital tools (such as language labs, EdPuzzle, or Duolingo for Schools) to enhance acquisition and engagement. Requirements & Qualifications: Certification: Valid New York State Certification in Spanish 7-12. Linguistic Proficiency: High-level fluency in both Spanish and English (written and oral). Preferred: Pedagogical Knowledge: Familiarity with the NYS World Language Learning Standards (aligned with the ACTFL Proficiency Scale). Possesses a "global mindset" and perhaps has experience living or studying abroad. Is eager to collaborate with the World Language team on vertical alignment and shared assessments. Is willing to contribute to the school community by advising a Spanish Club or Honor Society.
