The Hyde Park Central School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Social Worker for Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. The successful candidate will support the academic, emotional, and social well-being of students by providing counseling, crisis intervention, and connections to community resources. The primary responsibility of this social worker will be to educate at-risk youth about substance abuse and other high-risk activities. They will work in consultation with administrators, school counselors and clinicians to educate and create support plans for students that have been exposed to substance abuse.Our Portrait of a HPCSD Employee includes the following qualities: confident learner, effective communicator, adaptable innovator, critical thinker, and responsible citizen. Key Responsibilities:Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing at-risk behavior, substance abuse, and academic challenges.Develop and implement intervention strategies to improve student success and well-being.Participate in Child Study Team, CSE (Committee on Special Education), and other student support meetings.Conduct assessments and provide written reports to support student evaluations and referrals.Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies.Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school counselors, and other staff to support student development.Assist in the development of 504 Plans and IEPs as needed.Provide crisis response and intervention services.Promote equity, inclusivity, and culturally responsive practices in all interactions.Identify and support students and families experiencing homelessness in alignment with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, ensuring access to educational services, transportation, supplies, and referrals to appropriate community support resources.Collaborate with the district McKinney-Vento liaison to remove barriers to school enrollment, attendance, and participation for eligible students.Qualifications:Required:Valid New York State Certification as a School Social Worker (must hold a provisional or permanent School Social Worker certificate issued by NYSED).Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting.Knowledge of NYS education regulations, special education laws, McKinney-Vento Act provisions, and community resources.Preferred:Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.Experience working with at-risk youth.Experience with substance abuse counseling.Experience with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
