This full-time administrative role involves providing leadership, supervision, and assisting in the general administration of a comprehensive and equitable middle school program. The Assistant Principal is tasked with maximizing the physical and social/emotional well-being of all students and staff in alignment with the District's mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with administration, teachers, families, and the community to foster an innovative learning environment that empowers all learners to succeed.Qualifications: Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL), School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) or School District Administrator (SDA) certificate. Prior administrative experience preferred. Successful prior teaching experience required, middle school level preferred. Working knowledge of school administration principles and practices, current educational trends in curriculum and instruction, methods, materials, procedures, and practices. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Effective oral and written communication skills. Flexibility, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, and work well under pressure. Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and differentiated instruction. Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards. Ability to generate written memorandums, employee evaluations, reports and correspondence. Ability to multi-task and work effectively as a team member. May be required to assume responsibility for the administration of the school in the absence of the Principal. Responsibilities: Curriculum and Instruction Assist in establishing and promoting high standards and expectations for all students and staff to achieve academic excellence. Commit to advancing equity in education, reducing achievement gaps, ensuring equitable access to resources, and addressing systemic barriers. Stay informed on research findings, theories, and practices related to teaching and learning. Assist in the implementation of high-quality, research-based instructional programs. Assist in the evaluation and monitoring of data to appraise academic performance and develop instructional goals and actions. Assist in school-based planning processes to develop, implement, and evaluate school programs and activities related to the District's strategic plan. Assist in the facilitation of professional development during faculty meetings, school-based team meetings, or other opportunities. Assist in the development of the master schedule. Assist in the use of data to identify inequities, monitor progress toward equity goals, and inform decision-making related to instructional practices, resource allocation, and school policies. Work with building administration in areas related to curriculum, instruction, staff development, testing, assessment, scoring, and training. Apply social-emotional learning theory and practices to create a supportive school climate, implement evidence-based SEL programs, and support students' and staff's social and emotional well-being. Instructional Technological Fluency Select, use, and coach others using effective technological tools to strengthen school results and student achievement. Embrace technology-rich instructional practices in the classroom. Leverage technology platforms to inform planning and decision-making, promote efficiency in operations and enhance engagement with staff, parents/family, and community members. Understand district, state, and federal guidance on the intentional, safe, and equitable use of technology for students and staff. Students & Community Actively assist in establishing and maintaining a school culture where all students feel valued, represented, and encouraged, supporting their well-being and academic growth. Foster a sense of belonging and community among students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds, including assisting in the creation of inclusive policies and practices, facilitating meaningful dialogue around diversity and inclusion, and celebrating cultural differences. Assist in the administration of standards of student behavior that promote a positive climate for teaching and learning to maintain good order in the school and classrooms. Embrace restorative practices and instructional strategies that promote a respectful, restorative, and resilient school environment. Assist in the implementation of strategies to promote equity and inclusivity within the school community. Assist in the implementation and oversight of philosophies and procedures to uphold the District's Code of Conduct. Foster partnerships with students, staff, families, and the community to sustain a culture of academic success and social-emotional development. Create and sustain a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students, families, and staff. Engage families and the community to support each child's learning and the school's goals. Health and Safety Assist in the implementation of student health and safety procedures. Assist in the monitoring and implementation of best practices to ensure regular student attendance and accurate attendance reporting. Assist administration in working with staff to organize safety regulations, report serious accidents, conduct inspections, and arrange appropriate drills. Effective Communication Attend public meetings and school-sponsored activities regularly. Use effective communication and collaboration skills to work with administration, teachers, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders to promote a shared vision of excellence and responsiveness. Interpret the school program to the community and provide appropriate written information to the public. Partner with parents/guardians to support their children's educational, personal, social, and emotional growth. Personnel & Talent Retention Supervise and evaluate staff members, maintaining sound office procedures and accurate records for employees and students. Conduct classroom visitations, perform observations and evaluations. Work with administration to recruit, evaluate, and hire a diverse faculty and staff. Assist teachers and staff in solving instructional problems and create a collaborative atmosphere for solving school problems. Assist in the implementation of a professional development program related to building and District-wide instructional goals, promoting continuous improvement among staff members. Address personnel issues by involving all responsible parties in their resolution. Assist in planning/delivering orientation programs to acquaint new staff with building policies, procedures, and programs.Professional Growth Participate in activities leading to continued professional growth, including attending conferences, seminars, and workshops. Other Duties Assist in implementing District policies, regulations, and procedures. Perform other duties as required.Term: 12-month positionReports to: Principal
