Anticipated Full-time Social Studies Teacher (7-12) with a start date of August 26, 2026. Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools has an anticipated opening for a highly qualified and dedicated Social Studies Teacher for a full-time, probationary position. Candidates must hold New York State certification in Social Studies (Grades 7–12). The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and student-centered educator committed to fostering academic excellence, critical thinking, historical and social inquiry, and civic engagement among diverse learners. The successful candidate will contribute positively to a collaborative school community and create an inclusive, engaging learning environment that prepares students to become informed and active citizens. Key Responsibilities Teach Social Studies courses across multiple grade levels, primarily in grades 9-12. Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction aligned to NYSED frameworks. Support students in accessing the curriculum through accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies. Support instruction in AP World History, helping students develop the content knowledge, historical thinking skills, and test-taking strategies necessary for success on the AP World History examination. Guide students in conducting college-level research on contemporary social science issues, developing skills in research methodology, critical evaluation of sources, evidence-based analysis, and academic writing, while preparing students to earn college-level course credit and compete successfully in regional and national academic competitions. Develop and implement assessments to measure student learning and growth Collect, analyze, and use student data to inform instruction and improve outcomes. Collaborate with colleagues, co-teachers, and support staff to enhance student success. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment. Communicate effectively and proactively with students, families, and school staff.
