Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools (HWPS) is located on the south shore of Long Island and is consistently ranked as one of the highest performing Districts on both Provide leaderstate and national levels. The District educates approximately 2800 Pre-K through 12th grade students across five schools. Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools is dedicated to providing all students with enriching and exciting educational experiences in caring, student-centered environments.We are seeking an innovative, experienced, and collaborative administrator to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the development, implementation, and advancement of the District’s P-12 special education programs. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the senior leadership team and serve as a liaison to the Board of Education on all special education and student support services programs. Required qualifications: NYSED certification in administration (SDA/SDL). Preferred qualifications: Minimum eight years experience as a building level/district administrator; experience in student services administration and special education oversight and supervision; knowledge of New York State and Federal special education laws, learning standards, and assessments; experience in the supervision, evaluation, and professional development of teachers; and experience in application and implementation of computer-based technologies as they relate to the education programs utilized by administrative and support staff; ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members. Key responsibilities: Provide leadership for special education curricular and instructional initiatives District-wide.Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including Assistant Director of Special Education, Building Special Education Chairpersons, and CSE/CPSE Chairpersons.Supervise all student support staff, including P-12 Guidance Chairperson, School Counselors, School Social Workers, Psychologists, grades 3-8 Talented and Gifted teachers and Alternative Education program.Oversee the implementation of the District’s special education plan.Oversee the placement, program and service delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of services provided by outside agencies.Oversee the completion of all related department data collection and reporting, including State and Federal reporting.Work in conjunction with all building principals in the development and implementation of special education programs and services.Oversee the department’s financial operations including Medicaid compliance and funding for all out-of-District placements.Supervise the GED program and related personnel.Monitor legal requirements governing special education and ensure adherence to State/Federal law and board policy.Provide professional development to administrative and instructional staff as needed to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements related to special education and student support services.Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools._____________________________________________________________________________________
