The District seeks a highly motivated individual with the ability to lead and be responsible for the overall supervision and effectiveness of the Grades K to 6 special education program. The department chairperson reports directly to the Director of Special Education and Student Support Services. Responsibilities: Work cooperatively/collaboratively with administrators, teachers and support staff Develop, implement and monitor the secondary special education programs in conjunction with State/Federal guidelines and District priorities/procedures Develop annual departmental objectives Supervise and evaluate secondary special education staff Chair CSE meetings Interview and recommend prospective teachers and support personnel as openings occur Conduct departmental meetings and attend periodic after-school meetings Conduct staff development and orientation of new staff Provide staff training, assistance and encouragement with the development and implementation of IEPS, behavioral supports and specialized instructional strategies Assist in the reporting of all district, county and state data Oversee purchasing, distribution, maintenance and storage of materials and equipment Liaise with parents and students Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or her designee Requisites: Candidates must demonstrate leadership ability and a willingness to devote time beyond the regular school day in the performance of responsibilities. NYS teaching certification in Special Education or School Psychologist certification required Valid NYS Certification as a School District Administrator Administrative experience preferred
