Position Overview Herricks High School is seeking a dedicated, student-centered leader to join our administrative team as the Dean of Students. This pivotal role focuses on fostering a safe, structured, and supportive school environment where every student can thrive. The Dean of Students serves as a bridge between students, families, and staff, ensuring that our school culture remains rooted in mutual respect, accountability, and academic excellence. The Dean will work in close partnership with the High School administrative team, the Director of Guidance, and our comprehensive student support staff to maintain the high standards of the Herricks High School Code of Conduct. Key Responsibilities Culture & Environment: Promote a positive, inclusive school climate by modeling high expectations and building strong, trusting relationships with students and their families. Behavioral Leadership: Respond to student behavioral incidents and disciplinary concerns using a restorative and developmentally appropriate approach. You will emphasize accountability, reflection, and personal growth over punitive measures. Conflict Resolution: Facilitate and model restorative conversations, mediations, and targeted interventions to resolve conflicts and repair harm within the school community. Collaborative Systems: Work alongside administrators, counselors, and teachers to develop and implement consistent, equitable systems for student behavior and support. Data-Informed Advocacy: Regularly monitor and analyze discipline and attendance data to identify trends, ensure equity in school practices, and inform school-wide interventions. Staff Support: Provide ongoing guidance to faculty on effective classroom management, de-escalation strategies, and student-centered support practices. Proactive Programming: Contribute to school-wide initiatives that prioritize student well-being, civic responsibility, and a vibrant learning environment. Qualifications & Requirements Certification: New York State Certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School Building Leader (SBL) is required. Experience: Proven success in a high school setting, with a deep understanding of adolescent development and restorative justice practices. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations with empathy and clarity.
