Position Overview:Herricks Middle School seeks a compassionate, collaborative, and visionary educational leader to serve as an Assistant Principal. This role supports our commitment to academic excellence, inclusive school culture, and the holistic development of all students in alignment with the Herricks Strategic Coherence Plan and our Portrait of a Graduate.As part of a dynamic administrative team, the ideal candidate will complement the strengths of our current building leaders. The new AP will be a bridge-builder, a restorative leader, and a champion of social-emotional learning (SEL), contributing to the development of our students as communicators, collaborators, critical thinkers, and compassionate global citizens.Key ResponsibilitiesCollaboratively supervise and evaluate teaching faculty and school staff in alignment with district protocols.Assist in the design and management of the school’s master schedule in coordination with administration.Serve as the building DASA Coordinator, upholding equity, safety, and student voice.Mediate and manage student conflict using restorative approaches and trauma-informed practices.Cultivate inclusive, trusting partnerships with families, caregivers, and community members.Coordinate school-wide SEL initiatives, assemblies, and cultural celebrations that support belonging and student agency.Support goal setting, instructional coaching, and professional development aligned with district-wide initiatives and the 6Cs: Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Innovation, Compassion, and Confidence.Organize and facilitate grade-level and school-wide assessments and data conversations.Support trip planning, student activities, and extracurricular programs that align with our Portrait of a Graduate.Lead and participate in Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) and IEP team meetings, advocating for inclusive practices.Model high expectations for equity, inclusion, and whole-child learning.Desired QualificationsValid NYS School Building Leader (SBL) certification.Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience and/or relevant leadership experience.Demonstrated experience in restorative practices, SEL implementation, or equity-focused leadership.Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and student-centered assessment.Proven ability to lead with empathy, collaborate across roles, and sustain a positive school culture.Technological fluency and openness to innovation, including supporting staff and students in a rapidly changing digital landscape.Bilingual/multilingual abilities are a plus.Why Join Herricks?
