Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to serve as our Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Health. The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for comprehensive wellness and will possess a strong understanding of best practices in physical education, health education, and athletics. This individual will be responsible for providing visionary leadership and effective management of all aspects of our athletic programs, physical education curriculum, and health education initiatives.Responsibilities:Leadership and Supervision:Supervise and evaluate physical education and health teachers, as well as coaches, providing constructive feedback and support for professional growth.Mentor and guide staff in improving instructional practices, aligning curriculum with New York State standards, and implementing innovative teaching strategies.Foster a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages professional development and continuous improvement.Curriculum and Instruction:Work closely with physical education and health staff to review and refine the curriculum scope and sequence, ensuring alignment with New York State standards and the district's strategic plan.Promote the integration of technology and best practices in physical education and health education to enhance student learning while promoting the Portrait of a Graduate competencies.Oversee the selection of instructional materials and resources that support a comprehensive and engaging curriculum.Athletics Program Management:Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of the interscholastic athletic program, ensuring compliance with district, league, and state regulations.Enhance the district’s athletics program to serve as a vital conduit for community engagement, fostering school spirit and pride while establishing athletics as a central pillar of the Herricks school community.Manage athletic budgets, schedules, transportation, and facilities.Collaborate with coaches to promote sportsmanship, student-athlete well-being, and a culture of competitive excellence.Oversee the hiring and evaluation of coaches.Student Experience and Engagement:Work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents to provide a wide range of courses, athletic opportunities, and extracurricular activities that promote physical activity, health awareness, and student engagement.Advocate for the importance of physical education and health within the school community.Create a positive and inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs and interests of all students.Qualifications:Master's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Athletic Administration, or a related field.Valid New York State teaching certification in Physical Education and/or Health.New York State School District Administrator (SDA) certification. Minimum of five years of successful teaching and coaching experience at the secondary level. Leadership experience in the areas of physical education, health, and athletics is preferred. Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum development, program evaluation, and staff supervision.Strong knowledge of current trends and best practices in physical education, health education, and athletics.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
