The Harborfields Central School District is seeking a highly motivated and student-centered teacher with a STEM concentration to join the sixth-grade instructional team at Oldfield Middle School for the 2026–2027 school year - (start date to be confirmed). Oldfield Middle School is committed to providing a supportive and engaging learning environment that promotes academic growth, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and social development. The successful candidate will be dedicated to meeting the diverse learning needs of middle school students and fostering a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, inquiry, collaboration, innovation, and respect. The ideal candidate will possess strong content knowledge and an interest in developing interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The candidate should be able to provide students with meaningful opportunities to investigate authentic problems, apply their learning, design solutions, and develop the skills necessary for future academic success. Responsibilities include: Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with the New York State Learning Standards Design inquiry-based and project-based learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and development Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and monitor student progress Foster strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, literacy, numeracy, and critical-thinking skills Provide opportunities for students to investigate authentic problems, design and test solutions, analyze results, and refine their thinking Integrate technology and a variety of instructional strategies to enhance student learning Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to support student success Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and learning goals Participate actively in collaborative planning, professional learning, and schoolwide initiatives Qualifications: Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6) required Strong knowledge of upper-elementary and middle-school instructional practices Demonstrated knowledge of effective STEM instructional practices Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate students Ability to design rigorous, standards-aligned, and interdisciplinary learning experiences Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills Preferred: Experience teaching at the upper-elementary or middle-school level Experience designing and delivering inquiry-based, problem-based, or project-based STEM instruction Experience differentiating instruction and supporting diverse learning needs Experience integrating instructional technology into classroom learning Academic preparation, professional experience, or additional certification related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or STEM education Experience with coding, robotics, engineering design, makerspace learning, or other applied STEM experiences Application Procedure: Interested candidates should apply through OLAS and submit the following materials addressed to: Mr. Milton Josephs, Executive Director of Human Resources, Harborfields Central School District: Cover letter and Resume.
