The Harborfields Central School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Speech & Language Teacher to join the instructional team at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School, a Grades 3 through 5 school, effective 2026-2027 school year. This is a probationary, tenure-track position.The successful candidate will be a collaborative and reflective professional with a strong commitment to supporting students’ communication needs and promoting academic, social, and emotional growth. Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School values collaboration, inclusive practices, and continuous professional growth.Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Provide speech and language services in accordance with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) either in individualized or group settingsConduct evaluations and screenings to identify students with speech/language needs and monitor their progressDevelop and implement individualized and small-group therapy plans aligned to student needsCollaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, AIS, and Pupil Personnel Services staff to support student progressParticipate actively in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and related planningMaintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirementsCommunicate effectively and professionally with families regarding student progress and servicesSupport inclusive practices within general education classrooms, as appropriateParticipate in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and ongoing professional developmentContribute to a positive school climate and support school-wide initiativesFulfill all duties in accordance with district policies, contractual obligations, and New York State regulationsQualificationsValid New York State Education Department certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) or Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped requiredStrong knowledge of speech and language development and evidence-based intervention practicesExperience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in Grades 3 through 5Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and familiesStrong organizational, technical, and communication skillsApplication InstructionsQualified candidates must apply through OLAS only and submit a resume, cover letter addressed to Milton Josephs, Executive Director of Human Resources, and proof of New York State certification.To find out more about working at Harborfields CSD, copy and paste this link into your browser: https://youtu.be/howVxpZWi2YEqual Opportunity StatementHarborfields Central School District is committed to building a diverse and inclusive educational community.
