Job Overview The Hannibal Central School District is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Physical Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate will work with students who have a range of physical challenges, helping them to achieve optimal physical function and independence within the school environment. As a Physical Therapist, you will assess students' motor and mobility needs, provide interventions, and work collaboratively with educators, families, and other professionals to support each student’s success. Key Responsibilities: Provide physical therapy services to students, addressing gross motor, mobility, balance, and coordination skills. Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students’ physical therapy needs. Develop individualized treatment plans, including goals and interventions, as part of the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other school staff. Implement therapy sessions to improve students’ ability to participate in school activities, including positioning, mobility, transfers, and other physical tasks. Monitor and document student progress, regularly reviewing and updating therapy goals. Educate and train school staff and families on strategies to support students’ physical functioning throughout the school day. Collaborate with other school professionals (e.g., occupational therapists, speech therapists, special education teachers) to ensure a comprehensive approach to student care. Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations regarding physical therapy services in a school setting. Stay updated on current best practices, research, and technology relevant to pediatric physical therapy. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program. Certification: Current New York State licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist. Experience: Prior experience working with pediatric populations in a school or clinical setting is preferred. Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques for improving physical function in children. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team and engage with parents. Preferred Skills and Abilities: Experience working with students who have physical disabilities, neurological impairments, or other mobility challenges. Familiarity with adaptive equipment, orthotics, and assistive technology to enhance students’ physical access and participation. Ability to work well independently while managing multiple caseloads in a school setting. Demonstrated patience, problem-solving abilities, and creativity in adapting therapy to individual student needs.
