2026 - 2027 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCY Internal candidates only POSITION: ROBOTICS COACH The Hempstead School District is seeking a Robotics Coach for the 2025-2026 school year. The Robotics Coach position is responsible for the facilitation of the Robotics Program. This program provides students with an opportunity to compete in an academic extra-curricular activity (work as a team to construct and operate a robot to compete in Robotics competition). QUALIFICATIONS: - Valid New York State Elementary and/or Secondary Teacher Certification (as applicable to the age level of students). - Have a background in Engineering and Technology. - Have knowledge of a variety of materials, experience with tools, machines and processing of materials - Have knowledge of electronics, computer programming and pneumatics. - Knowledge and experience with FIRST Robotics. - STEM interest and background preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff, students and the community. Demonstrated ability to use both oral and written English appropriately and effectively. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math computations including rates, ratio, and percents using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Demonstrate a high degree of ability related to cash receipts, deposits, balancing and verifying funds. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Demonstrated ability to use good judgement in decision-making. LOCATION: Hempstead High School RESPONSIBILITIES: The hours for the Head coach may go beyond the teachers’ workday and also include some weekends. Be familiar with all areas of the robotics program. Organize all aspects of build time. Communicate effectively with students and adults Follow directions and delegate responsibilities. Work calmly under pressure. Assist the advisor/assistant advisor as needed. Responsible for student safety. Organize member registration and student recruitment. Individual events Supervise students and mentors during the build. Complete, organize, and submit appropriate paperwork as necessary for the program. Grant writing Fundraising as needed COMPENSATION: Stipend $8,000 CLOSING DATE: August 7, 2026 Internal candidates only
