2026 – 2027 VACANCIES Department of Bilingual Education & World Languages POSITIONS : (2) INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY COACHES The International Academy Facilitator is responsible for the dual execution of crucial administrative and programmatic services designed to bridge the "Newcomer Shock" and "Linguistic Gaps" for refugee and immigrant students in grades 7–12. This role focuses on supporting English Language Learners by managing the initial intake process, providing daily advocacy, delivering professional development to secondary staff, leading family orientations, and providing critical translation and interpretation services. LOCATION: Hempstead High School and ABGS Middle School QUALIFICATIONS: TESOL and/or Bilingual Certification KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct specialized newcomer intake interviews to identify unmet basic, academic, and social-emotional needs. Manage initial intake logs and provide direct assistance to families completing registration forms for district after-school programs. Provide logistical support during the administration of diagnostic and placement assessments planned by the Director. Oversee the verification of student immunization and registration records, assisting families in navigating local health requirements in real-time. Conduct multi-day intake sessions (held 5 times a year). Identify and clear resource gaps (such as school supplies, winter clothing, and welcome kits) during the orientation window to ensure students do not fall behind in their first 30 days. Deliver workshops to students and families detailing New York State school culture, norms, student expectations, and rights. Lead a minimum of 4 evening Family Orientation sessions quarterly (in person or virtually) covering grading policies, state assessments, graduation requirements, attendance, and parent-teacher conference preparation. Design and facilitate 3 annual professional development sessions focused on SIFE strategies and "Newcomer Shock" to bridge the Cultural Competency Gap among secondary staff. Collaborate with clinicians, social workers, and guidance counselors to review district SEL screeners to identify and refer students to the P.L.U.S. after-school program for small-group Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) support provided by the Hispanic Counseling Center (HCC). Handle the written translation of all workshop and orientation flyers/ presentations. Attend ENL/HLA PLCS, curriculum council, SLT meetings to provide updates. Collaborate with teachers to review reading diagnostic results to identify and refer students for intervention services. Provide intervention services to identified students during their ENL/HLA class using Read180. Track performance data, student usage of digital platforms (Read180, Rosetta Stone), and parent attendance. Maintain and submit detailed monthly service logs documenting intake interviews, brief summaries, completed orientation/workshops, and parent/student sign-in sheets to validate service delivery, platform usage, and performance reports. Work directly with the Director of Bilingual Education & World Languages, Director of Community Schools and building leaders to compile all required metrics for the 90-day quarterly reports submitted to OTDA.
