SUMMER 2026 VACANCIES Internal Candidates Only Department of Bilingual Education & World Languages POSITIONS : WORLD LANGUAGE CURRICULUM WRITERS (GRADES 7-8) The purpose of this summer curriculum writing project is to strengthen and align the Middle School World Language curriculum with the revised New York State World Language Learning Standards (Checkpoint A benchmarks), proficiency-based outcomes, and district instructional priorities. LOCATION: ABGS Middle School (in person only) DATES: July 13, 2026 – July 17, 2026 (Not to exceed 15 hours per participant) TIME: 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 p.m. (All selected applicants will be required to use Timepiece to punch in and out daily) QUALIFICATIONS: Valid New York State World Language Certification KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Finalize comprehensive World Language curriculum maps for Grades 7–8. Revise maps to reflect the instructional shifts of the updated NYS World Language Standards, focusing on the core themes (Identity, Culture, Communities, etc.) and the three modes of communication (Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational). Embed newly adopted instructional resources, authentic texts, and digital platforms for the upcoming school year into the curriculum maps. Create thematic unit plans that include essential questions, communicative "Can-Do" statements, language objectives, pacing guides, and weekly learning activities. Create a scaffold map of differentiated supports tailored to students' varying language proficiency levels (Novice-Low to Novice-High). Guarantee seamless vertical alignment across the middle school grade bands to increase student readiness for High School Checkpoint B language courses and the ultimate pipeline toward the Seal of Biliteracy. Actively engage in collaborative planning sessions and submit required daily artifacts (including unit maps, scopes, and sequences) at the conclusion of each session.
