2025 - 2026 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCIES CERTIFIED PER DIEM SUBSTITUTE CLASSROOM TEACHERS ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL Hempstead Public Schools seeks Per Diem Certified Substitute Teachers. The Per Diem Substitute Teacher accepts teacher coverages via AESOP and checks in with clerical or administrative staff upon arrival at school. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Review with the building administrator all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day. Teach the lesson outlined and described in the plans prepared by the absent teacher. Maintain as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom. Report in writing, on the form provided by the school secretary, on the day’s activities, at the conclusion of the teaching day. Follow all policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Valid New York State Teacher Certification PERSONAL QUALITIES: Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and competing demands Demonstrated ability to work in a calm and respectful manner Maintain a positive, encouraging attitude to motivate others. Candidate must enjoy working with children COMPENSATION: Certified Substitute Teachers are paid a per-diem rate of $140.00 per day C LOSING DATE: April 1, 2026
