2025 - 2026 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCIES CERTIFIED PERMANENT SUBSTITUTE CLASSROOM TEACHERS ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL Hempstead Public Schools seeks Permanent Certified Substitute Teachers. The permanent substitute teacher reports to the same school each day, checking in with clerical and administrative staff to receive teaching assignments. They are also flexible, filling both short-term and long-term teaching assignments. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assume all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher Follow lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher Leave feedback and notes for the regular classroom teacher Maintain a positive learning environment Effectively manage a classroom of students by keeping them on task and engaged Assist with non-classroom duties when assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Valid New York State Teacher Certification PERSONAL QUALITIES: Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and competing demands Demonstrated ability to work in a calm and respectful manner Maintain a positive, encouraging attitude to motivate others. Candidate must enjoy working with children COMPENSATION: Permanent Substitute Teachers are paid a per-diem rate of $165.00 per day C LOSING DATE: April 1, 2026
