2024 - 2025 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCIESPOSITION: Future Teachers Club Advisors - Elementary/Secondary Internal Candidates Only JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic advisor to lead and mentor students in the Future Educators Club at each school. The ideal candidate will inspire and guide students interested in pursuing careers in education. As a club advisor, you will provide students with valuable insights into the teaching profession, facilitate engaging hands-on experiences, and offer guidance on pathways to a career in education. QUALIFICATIONS: - Valid New York State Teacher certification- Passion for teaching and mentoring- Strong leadership and organizational skillsLOCATION: Elementary/Secondary SchoolsJOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Mentorship & Guidance: Mentor students who are interested in becoming educators, providing insight and advice about career paths within education.Club Meetings: Organize and lead weekly club meetings, encouraging students to explore the field of education and inspiring them to pursue careers in the education profession.Hands-on Teaching Experiences: Plan and facilitate grade-appropriate hands-on teaching activities and experiences that give students a sense of what being an educator entail).Guest Speakers: Coordinate and invite guest speakers from various areas of education to speak with club members and provide diverse perspectives on the teaching profession.College Visit Coordination: Prepare students for and participate in a visit to Suny Old Westbury College School of Education, allowing students to explore higher education opportunities in the field.Teacher Unions Education: Educate students about the history, roles, and importance of teacher unions in shaping the profession.Compliance: Adhere to all district policies and guidelines for student club advisors to ensure a safe and supportive environment.Conference Participation: Help prepare students for and facilitate their participation in regional and state Future Educator conferences and events.COMPENSATION: ContractualWeekly Meetings: After-school meetings (minimum of 1 hour) will be compensated at an hourly rate.Additional Time: Additional time spent planning college visits, organizing activities, and attending these events will also be compensated at the hourly rate.
