2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCY Department of Bilingual Education & World Languages POSITION: DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM COLLABORATIVE SUPPORT SPECIALIST (K-3) INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLYLOCATION: All District Elementary Schools (K-3) QUALIFICATIONS:Valid New York State TESOL Certification KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The position plays a vital role in supporting and strengthening the elementary (K-3) dual language program. The focus is on fostering a collaborative environment where teachers can share best practices and develop effective strategies to create a bilingual and biliterate learning environment for their students. The primary responsibility is leading professional development sessions during extended Wednesdays.Professional Development Leadership:Facilitating Collaboration: During extended Wednesdays, design and lead professional development sessions focused on facilitating collaboration amongst K-3 dual language teachers. These sessions will provide a platform to share best practices, discuss challenges, and support one another’s professional growth.District-Approved Tools Integration: Plan and conduct professional development sessions on effectively utilizing district-approved tools for language and literacy transfer. These tools may include Heggerty Espanol, Bridge to Reading, Estrellita, myView, and MiVision. The sessions will equip teachers with the knowledge and skills to integrate these resources seamlessly into their lesson plans.Curriculum Alignment: Ensure the professional development sessions align with the district’s dual language program curriculum, instructional schedules, and best practices in bilingual education.Collaboration and Planning Support:Collaboration with Director and SMP Consultant: Collaborate with the Director of Bilingual Education and the SMP consultant to develop and implement professional development that addresses the current needs and aligns with district goals.Resource Sharing: Connect teachers with relevant resources, including those focused on utilizing the district-approved tools for language and literacy transfer.Planning Sessions: Facilitate planning sessions for teachers throughout the year, assisting them in planning lessons that effectively integrate the approved tools and strategies to promote language transfer and literacy development in both languages. Overall Goal:The overall goal is to cultivate a collaborative and supportive environment for teachers in the dual language program. By focusing on best practices, effective utilization of district-approved tools, and lesson planning support, this position empowers teachers to create a rich learning environment that fosters bilingualism and biliteracy in their students.COMPENSATION: Service Assignment II; Selected applicants will be required to submit a monthly log to reflect 5-10 hours worked monthly, identifying activities performed beyond the regular workday.Source of funding – Title IIICLOSING DATE: May 20, 2024INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY
