2022 - 2023 SCHOOL YEAR VACANCY POSITION: FASHION DESIGN AND TEXTILES TEACHER Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Fashion Design and Textiles Teacher develops students’ ability to implement positive social-emotional learning, demonstrates employability skills and the ability to problem solve in a wide variety of settings with a concentration on fashion and clothing design and construction. RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and administer Career and Technical Education curriculum, consistent with school district goals and objectives; develop Family and Consumer Sciences units to be delivered in the classroom.Teach skill and knowledge in fashion design, clothing and merchandising or related fields.Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and utilize appropriate equipment for subject area; translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction. Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of positive development strategies to everyday existence, guide students in the selection of projects or experiments.Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modify instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. Maintain familiarity with district and New York State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests. Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
