POSITION: FAMILY PARTNERSHIP SPECIALIST Full-time, year roundSTART DATE: April 1, 2023LOCATION: District Office DESCRIPTION: The Family Partnership Specialist is primarily responsible to assist with structuring and guiding the District’s Parent/Family Engagement Program. The Specialist will empower parents to become active partners in the education of their children, and to engage with District staff for a fuller integration of ideas as it relates to parent and family engagement and bridge building across the school district and Hicksville. This key position will improve communication between the school and the students’ families and encourage greater community involvement in the school. The FES/C will be working directly with individual families as well as serving the entire school community. Essential duties:Coach and coordinate work of the Parent Family Engagement teamBuild a parent advisory group and working committee(s) that centers the parent voiceOutreach to parents on a regular basis and engage families in meaningful and culturally appropriate waysImplement a shared leadership model that supports parents in leadership rolesFoster family-school-community partnerships Personal skills:Ability to build collaborative relationshipsCreate an inclusive and welcoming environmentPossess cultural sensitivity skills and values diversityStrong interpersonal skillsHighly effective organizational and follow-up skillsAbility to manage relevant computer applicationsWorks with integrity, kindness, perseverance, and punctuality and is able to diffuse difficult situations. Prerequisites:Bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Development, Social Services, Education or related fieldCertification in Social Emotional Learning or equivalentMinimum of 3 years of Family engagement experience with knowledge and best practices in family engagementMinimum of 3-5 years of experience working directly with culturally and economically diverse families, and community-based work which includes team leadership responsibilitiesFamiliarity with the use of Propio Lanuage Services or other translation services and ability to manage other relevant computer applications.Driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle and/or ability to travel with reliable transportation. MINIMUM PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Modeling nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and create an engaging, inclusive and respectful environment that welcomes family/community presence and input;Completing a listening tour in the first 90 days to gather information, hear concerns, identify barriers, and build rapport with families, students, school personnel and school organizations;Working collaboratively with the Parent Family Engagement Team to bring school stakeholders together to develop a system of support for families, and ensure parents/caregivers ideas and concerns are addressed at appropriate school committee and Board meetings;Strengthen staff and school community’s knowledge and capacity to increase parent engagement, enhance intervention and understanding of the role of parents/families to achieve healthy student outcomes;Communicating and outreaching regularly to parents/caregivers and engaging families in meaningful and culturally appropriate ways to inspire and support their participation in their children’s education;Assess opportunities to provide parents/caregivers with ongoing mentoring and leadership training opportunities;Establishing community relationships based upon knowledge of diverse formal and informal community resources, knowledge of community demographics and common challenges;Completing administrative and board reports and necessary data entry on a timely basis;Communicating openly and honestly with the Superintendent and Board of Education; Participating in family events/workshops and enrichment programs during afternoons/evenings or weekends and attend PTA meetings and appropriate school committee meetings;Fostering family-school-community partnerships and building a collaborative network of family resource organizations that can support and enhance students’ and families’ educational and home life needs and that promote child-development and well-being;Ideal candidate will have experience working or interacting with families from diverse backgrounds and have a commitment to inclusion and equity.Additional language skills preferred, but not necessaryAPPLICATION DEADLINE: February 15, 2023
