MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from a regionally accredited New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine. 2 years of experience preferred.First Aid, CPR, AED, Concussion Management and NARCAN DASA, SAVE, Child Abuse WorkshopsPossession of a National Athletic Trainers Certificate from the National Athletic Trainers Association.Such alternatives to the above minimum qualifications as the Board of Education and the Superintendent find appropriate and acceptable will be considered.GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Ten month position, beginning the first day of fall practices, approximately mid-August, through approximately mid-June. The athletic trainer will work in accordance with a weekly schedule to be determined by the Athletic Director. Daily and weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season.Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health and Wellness in conjunction with the District Head Nurse and District Medical Director, the Athletic Trainer is responsible for the care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries involving student athletes who participate in various school sports programs. Responsible for assisting coaches in providing instruction to coaches, athletes and parents on the prevention and care of athletic injuries.Responsible for rendering first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or other emergency measures when needed due to athletic injuries. Maintains and administers prescribed rehabilitation and treatment programs. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Attends and renders first aid and initial assessment during practices and home games for junior varsity and varsity interscholastic teams, and travel where possible, to away contests with varsity level teamsAssists with treatment and rehabilitation of modified athletes as neededPerforms preventative taping, wrapping, and padding of injured areasProvides first aid and initial assessment to visiting team athletes during games and determines appropriate participation status of injured athletesFits braces, guards, mouth pieces, and other protective devices, consulting with the coaching staff as necessary concerning proper fitUnder the direction of the District Medical Director, administer post injury and post-operative rehabilitation protocols for injured students-athletesSupervises the high school training and ice roomOperates therapeutic devices and equipmentAssists middle and high school nursing staff with approval and clearance of student medical histories during sports registration periodsMaintains inventory of athletic medical suppliesMonitors safe playing environments (i.e. NYSPHSAA Heat Index and Thunder/Lightning Policies) Assist the Athletic Director with annual budget for training room and medical suppliesAssist the Athletic Director with the Athletic Placement ProcessAssist the Strength and Conditioning coach in developing pre-season and off season conditioning programsDevelop comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plansOversees the District’s Concussion Education and Return to Play protocolsMaintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation proceduresDevelop coach’s professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness, Sudden Cardiac Death, etc.Consults with teachers, administrators, and other staff as needed regarding academic support for student-athletes recovering from injuryPerforms related duties as required or assignedFULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology; Thorough knowledge of athletic conditioning techniques and procedures; Thorough knowledge of first aid procedures; Good knowledge of interscholastic sports; Ability to administer CPR, AED and NARCAN; Ability to establish and maintain a productive working relationship with coaches, parents and athletes.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTThe Athletic Trainer will be employed on a 10 month basis for the school year. Salary and benefits are determined in conference with the Superintendent of Schools.Salary: Regionally competitive salary range of $58,000 - $68,000 with extra hours available and benefits.Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Athletics, PE, Health, and Wellness in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Personnel and the individual contract.Reports to: The Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Athletics, PE, Health, and Wellness.
